Misogyny illustrated
Warning – this is very bad.

Because we as a society are so much obsessed with commoditisation of women’s bodies that killing a girl is “normal” using myth of “virginity”.
Oh and yes, now let’s deny early age marriages in Pakistan.
17 Years Old Girl Killed On Her Wedding Night In Jacobabad Sindh For Not Proven Virgin
The Express Tribune in Pakistan reports the story, though it says the claim about virginity is not confirmed.
A bride was allegedly strangled to the death by her husband on the night of their wedding in a suspected case of ‘honour killing’, Jacobabad police said on Saturday.
During the day, an alleged picture of the deceased bride made rounds on social media and suggested that the young girl was killed by her husband for “not being a virgin”. However, this piece of information could not be verified.
Khanzadi, daughter of Lal Mohammad Lashari, married her cousin Qalandar Bux Khokhar the night before her lifeless body was found in her bedroom in ADC Colony. The suspect, her husband, remains on the run.
If you train people to hate women, this is what you get.
“The claim about virginity is not confirmed”.
Like that fucking matters! Are they implying that confirmation would justify her murder?
Maybe I’ve misunderstood that bit, but it seems a strange thing to say.
No I don’t think so. I think just doing the responsible journalism thing of distinguishing between a social media rumor and something they’ve been able to confirm.
I think you’re probably right, Ophelia. I think that my mistake was reading this article whilst my head was still full of bad memories brought to the surface by your article* on domestic abuse and my comment there.
However, we all know that if and when her killer is found he’ll find a way of blaming the victim for her own death; if not her virginity there’ll be something else. There always is. Looked at another man the ‘wrong’ way; said something disrespectful; she was talking when she should have been listening, and so on. I can’t remember the last time I heard “She did nothing wrong. I am responsible, and me alone” from the perpetrator of domestic violence / murder.
*Not a criticism of you. I know full well what you write about and how you write it. Your writing is honest and uncompromising and that’s exactly why I come here. The only person responsible for my memories is the bastard that put them there, and it doesn’t matter one bit who or what might awaken them, the blame stays firmly and completely with him.
My god, this poor young woman. How little do you have to value women’s lives to do something like this. Male entitlement at its worst.
How is anyone shocked at this? It’s as common as hair.
