Maryam challenges Sam
Maryam Namazie went on Sam Harris’s podcast yesterday.

I gather from Maryam’s Twitter that feathers flew.
I’m listening now; I’m 18 minutes in. As you can see, it’s two hours.
The Twitter dudebros are furious at Maryam for disagreeing with their hero. She doesn’t care.
Next week she debates Tariq Ramadan in Oxford. Now that should be awesome!
Speaking of Maryam Namazie, she has an online petition condemning the fatwa and bounty against Salman Rushdie. The petition is still taking signatures if anyone would like to sign.
I’m 40 minutes in and all I can say is Maryam is great, the patience she showed at Goldsmiths clearly wasn’t a one off. I especially love how she cuts through Sam Harris’ faulty appeals to consensus. He’s busy coopting outright fascists to his side by sheer incuriosity about what they believe and she won’t have a bar of it.
I’m saving this up for when I have time to give it proper attention.
I love (as in, don’t) the way Harris signs off:
“All I can say is, I tried. Now I’m gonna go do something else. Perhaps a nude protest.”
The nude protests (against compulsory “modesty”) that Maryam has been involved with were not mentioned at all in the preceding two hours of conversation. He just had to close on a little bit of mockery. What an arse.
Oh ffs. I haven’t finished listening to it yet so I didn’t know that. God what an asshole he is.
