Makes the whole world blind
The Beeb reports another manifestation of religious zeal:
An Australian prisoner who supports the so-called Islamic State has allegedly used a knife to carve a slogan on to his cellmate’s head.
Reports said the Islamic State mantra “e4e”, standing for “an eye for an eye”, was carved into the man’s head.
An inquiry will examine how the high-risk attacker, 18, came to be housed with his 40-year-old cellmate.
The guy with the carved-up head was a minimum security prisoner; the carver was maximum security.
The 40-year-old man was admitted to Port Macquarie Base Hospital in a critical condition, but was now stable, a hospital spokesperson told the BBC.
Police have charged Hraichie with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and intentionally choking a person.
Allah is merciful.
Hmm. Nice to see my part of the world making the news (or not, given the context)! Yeah, can’t say this story comes as a complete surprise to me, as militant Islamism is apparently becoming a bit of a thing here Down Under. I remember reading a book a couple of years back called Blood Money: Bikies, Terrorists and Middle Eastern Gangs, which made mention, among other things, of the growing popularity of fundamentalist Islam among the inmates of Australian prisons. Pretty disturbing stuff.
Some British tabloid was trumpeting the ‘conversion’ of Celebrity Convicts to Islam recently. Their claim was that such declarations were a quick path to improved food and ‘religious’ privileges.
An eye for an eye? The victim didn’t carve anything into anyone’s head, he stole some stuff. And what can the victim expect in return? A scalp for a scalp? Abuse for abuse? Humiliation for humiliation? Pain for pain?
This is the problem with that eye-for-an-eye horribleness, isn’t it? It gives people an excuse to cling to when they do shitty things to other people, never expecting that the same excuse might work for people wishing to harm them. It’s all just a minor variation of “they deserved it”.
