Girls can hear him
Well that’s a powerful ad.

And what might be as bad, our sons can hear him. And they get the message – women are losers.
Think Trump’s message on women is bleeding into 1st grade classrooms the way his anti-immigrant rhetoric is?
Of course. How could it not? Many children will see it on tv day in and day out.
I dunno, children are already conditioned to hate and shame women; he may not really contribute much to it. Would be interesting to see one way or the other.
Either way his ascendancy has damaged the barely noticeable upward trend towards treating women and minorities like people for at least a generation.
I would characterize Trump’s impact here as re-normalizing language that had, to a degree, been chased to the margins.
Yes, culture is sexist. But much of the worst of the remaining sexism had been chased, in many circles, to the underground, the tacit, the covert. You could still pay women less, promote them less, have none on your board, but overt embracing of language like his, as with the raving conspiratorial antifeminist crap like that flogged by the MRAs came with increasing social costs. The CEO might still say stuff like that, but it would be in the men’s room, to those he either trusted enough or had enough leverage over to feel safe from it getting to HR, the press, or the minutes of a board meeting. The people saying stuff like that anywhere it might be heard were pseudonymous trolls, drunk jerks in bars, and, sure, a small, ugly fringe who would actually put their name to it on the net or the darker corners of older media. They might have represented a larger, skulking attitude, but the actually vocal ones were pretty marginal.
Trump’s rise has basically said: yes, these things are perfectly acceptable to say in public. Close to half the country, indeed, may still consider you presidential material, all the same. And I have to remind anyone still considering giving him a vote, or any support, for any reason: your support also contributes to this.
This captures another major part of Trump’s nastyness
