It does seem to be the common response. Especially nobody seems to acknowledge that (unarmed) white people aren’t being gunned down on the streets by policemen on a daily basis.
I also wonder whether this doesn’t apply to all marginalised groups. It seems to me that “women’s lives matter”, “trans lives matter”, or “mentally ill lives matter” would probably get similar pushback.
/minor gripe: It looks as if the pen-and-ink drawings are lifted. Why do people believe it’s OK to steal on the internet? If you can’t draw, why not to stick figures like xkcd or Robot Hugs? /end gripe
Oh it absolutely applies to women, we know that much – that’s all those people saying “I’m not a feminist, I’m a humanist.” It’s the identical thought, or unthought.
But wait a minute…I’m busy being indignant and enraged about X. How dare you expect me to consider ANOTHER issue?
And the thing is, if the #AllLivesMatter people weren’t ignoring the actual police brutality problem, I would think it was an *expansion* of the original complaint. Police ARE killing disabled people of all races, and Native Americans, in similar fashion to their killing of black people. It’s terrible– we are living in a police state and no one is really safe.
But the people saying AllLivesMatter aren’t actually talking about those issues, they just want to silence real discussion.
The pen-and-ink drawings appear to be stock cartoons available from clip art sets.
@5 Your powers of perception are amazing…and have nothing to do with the issue at hand.
Delft had a minor gripe at #1, and I was addressing that. Sorry not to have made that clear.
