Foxes can be quite cute and curious. When hiking in Canada’s eastern forests you often come across them. Their tails are so incredibly lush and furry, but you should still keep your distance just in case.
I told the story a couple of weeks ago of encountering four of them late at night while walking Cooper (who longed to charge at them), and wanting to keep my distance but being disconcerted at the way they kept trotting along with us.
My lab looks out onto Mount Royal, in the centre of Montreal, and very early one morning in October, feeling ambitious, I went for a jog along a wooded trail… And came across a curious fox. Unfortunately I had nothing on me to record the encounter. But its presence “made my day”.
The odd fox strays into my garden. They’re very common in the cities. They’re a bit scrawny, poor things, as they can’t ransack rubbish out of wheelie bins.
Very cute!

Foxes are awesome.

Wow, lucky you, both for the encounter and for the outlook from your lab.
