The choice is clear
An ad for a real estate company in a suburb of Seattle:
Who ya gonna hire? Huh? Some dumb broad with a buncha kids who tie her up? Or two manly men who are professionals? Some sloppy part-time female “agent” in jeans or two well-groomed full time PROFESSIONALS who stand up straight and aren’t surrounded by children?
The choice is yours.
The company apologized for the ad once people pointed out the subtle hard-to-see problems with it.
I will say, if you are a family with kids, the person dealing with kids might just understand your needs better. Which are you going to hire? The person who is an entitled jerk? Or the person who knows how to deal with difficult people? (As mothers with kids have to know for survival).
Just sayin’.
“We have the upmost respect for moms and working mothers, and we know that the job of a mother is far more demanding than what we do as real estate professionals. ”
Here’s where you lost me. No, you obviously don’t have the utmost respect for moms and working mothers. If you accept full responsibility, then admit that this ad tells us that you think women, and especially mothers, are not as capable as men. Admit it, and do better in the future. Don’t just pretend that you don’t harbour any sexist views.
And cut that “being a mom is the hardest job in the world” horseshit. It’s insulting. Like I’m supposed to be assuaged by that patronizing pat on the head.
I’d rather hire the mother. She clearly needs the business more and I don’t like the ethics of the professionally arrogant sexists.
