Because sex is a fundamental human right?
According to David Futrelle (and others) the shooter at Umpqua CC told Reddit his plans yesterday.
This is beyond fucked up. In this archived thread from 4chan’s /r9k/ board, the alleged shooter at Umpqua Community College told fellow channers yesterday of his plans to shoot up a school today. He didn’t specify which school, mentioning only that it was in the “northwest.” /r9k/ is a board heavily populated by so-called “incels,” and the media is reporting that the apparent shooter regularly posted bitter complaints about his lack of success with women,
Screenshots below:
Here’s his first comment warning fellow channers not to go to school today if they live in the northwest.
There’s a whole lot more, and that’s only a small sample, because Futrelle doesn’t have the stomach to collect more. I don’t have the stomach to collect any.
Cis privilege in real life.
“Cis privilege in real life.”
Not sure I understand this. Male entitlement and heteronormativity, yes, but what does cis privilege got to do with this?
“Cis privilege” has never meant “there’s no such thing as misogyny and male entitlement”, if that’s what this last remark is getting at (unless I’m misunderstanding completely?). It feels like a weird thing to bring up.
Oh really? Never? Anywhere? You sure about that?
A hint at some school attack in the Northwest, and the word ‘beta.’ No reference to misogyny.
‘It’s either you kill me or my parents do, I’ll be waiting lad.’
W.T.F?
The story may well be another Roger, but there’s no indication that that’s the case from the content here.
‘…the media is reporting that the apparent shooter regularly posted bitter complaints about his lack of success with women.’
Which media? Can we SEE what they’re ‘reporting?’ Can reporters actually report?
And NOW, the media is parroting the ‘he hated religion’ trope.
One witness has claimed that he asked victims their religion. I have to confess that, after the phony martyrdom stories out of Columbine, I’m suspicious.
As for ‘hating religion’ we have TWO quotes from social media: that he disliked ‘organized religion’ and that he was ‘not religious, but spiritual.’ Really?
And, as with Elliott Roger, there is silence around the shooter’s racial identity. With Roger, we had all the ‘white privilege’ boilerplate released before anyone noted that his multi-racial background may have contributed to his sense of exclusion.
If the person posting on the board was indeed the shooter, then yes, his posting there is evidence that he might have been another Roger. You can’t see it because you don’t recognize the dog whistles.
“Incel” stands for “involuntary celibate.” There are online communities of these men. They are bitter, anti-feminist misogynists. They believe men are entitled to sex from women; they excoriate the “sluts” who won’t fuck them, and look forward to the day when, they say, AI sex robots will make real women redundant.
Terms like “beta” and “cuck” (short for cuckold) are flags marking misogynist territory.
If you read We Hunted the Mammoth, you’ll become all too familiar with these angry losers and their worldview. Fortunately, Futrelle has a great sense of humor and his mockery of them is masterful.
I agree; that’s not what it means. It means cis folks aren’t routinely stared at, treated as freaks, made the butts of jokes. Being cis means that on that particular axis, you’re on the “normal” end, that’s all.
It depends what “means” means.
That may be what it’s supposed to mean, but that’s emphatically not how it’s invariably used. It’s often used as a mere term of abuse, for one thing, and it’s often used as just “one more axis of privilege” for another; and there are other uses.
Just explaining what the word is supposed to mean does nothing to negate the way it’s used as a verbal baseball bat.
Maybe you have to spend some time as the baseball to be aware of that.
Let’s see if I understand the ‘cis privilege’ remark.
You were saying that women don’t have ‘cis privilege’ because there is no cis anything. If that’s the case then I agree. Cis is such a dumb term, especially when applied to women, as if women just coast through life without their biological capacity and function affecting them. My ultimate image of how ridiculous this is to put a 6 foot tall dude in a dress who makes 6 figures a year in his STEM job screaming at Purvi Patel ‘DIe CIS SCUM!’
That puts the kibosh on that shit real quick.
It’s the same thing when MRA’s screech about the ‘gynocracy’ as if women everywhere are oppressing men with their uteri.
Anywho, it’s quite clear this guy hung around in MRA circles, to me anyway, since I’ve been monitoring the MRM for many years. It’s the whole MRA/Gamergate/4chan crowd once again.
They’re all one in the same really, imv. When gamergate first reared its ugly head I said it was a men’s rights mob.
“6 foot tall dude in a dress”…that’s pretty rotten. I also just clicked your blog though, and wow, so much fear-mongering about transgender people.
“Why Trans Is a Delusion”
“If you’re a transactivist who doesn’t recognize that males aren’t females you’re not welcome here either.”
“Trans activists are effectively experimenting on children. Could there be anything more cruel?”
“Portland Twanz Going After Michfest”
My head is spinning…how the actual hell does a conversation about a mass murderer shooting nine people on an American campus start bringing out this kvetching about the term “cis” and commenters crawling out of the woodwork with all-out bigotry towards trans people?
“Just explaining what the word is supposed to mean does nothing to negate the way it’s used as a verbal baseball bat.”
Even so, what is the connection to the current story? If it is because only cis people (that we know of) were killed, this is sufficiently explained by the fact that the prevalence of trans people in the general population is around 1%… This would be very weak evidence against cis privilege…
