Spam spam spam bacon flattery and spam
I’m getting a hilarious new type of spam which consists of a single sentence complimenting me for all-cognitive reasons – basically “oooh you’re so clever.” One said “sbutle [sic] must be your middle name.” Hahahahahahahahahaha.
Seriously, what do they do, have bots that scan websites and figure out what kind of flattery will go down best?
You have to admit, Ophelia Sbutle Benson has a nice ring to it.
I love this post! It’s sooo… sbutle.
:- D
That “sbutle” thing makes me think “shipoopi” which makes me thing “shikaka” which makes me wonder what the hell happened to Jim Carrey after he started dating Jenny McCarthy, which is not something particularly happy and so I’ll back up and think “shipoopi” again and go either “Family Guy” or “The Last Starfighter, either of which works for me much better.
What are we talking about?
Um, in your email? Or in comments? Either way, that almost seems like it could be a nice little pick-me-up. How sweet.
Haha, I noticed JT Eberhard’s new site was buried in a bunch of flattering spam comments before he figured out how to set up the filter. Kind of a clever way to woo the blog admins into leaving the links up.
Ha, no, not email, in comments here. It has to be site-specific, so I’m wondering what kind of algorithm they have to do that, and laughing at the whole idea.
Maybe I should just approve them all.
HAhahahahahahahahahahaha
Improbable Joe,
“Shipoopi, shipoopi…” damn it!
Why is this so funny?!? It shouldn’t have made me laugh that hard.
You’re not just sbutle, you’re sniny too!
[I can haz brownie now?]
You could add them all to your CV!
I want to start calling you Sbutle now.
Have you ever seen Brazil?
Tuttle/Buttle – Subtle/Sbutle.
Be very worried if somebody arrives to repair your air conditioning.
Stephen, good idea! Or I could use them as banners at the top of the front page.
Heeheehee
Yes, banners!
Why should PZ have all the fun with rotating banners?
We’ve been having problems with Russian spammers at the forum I mod, and yes – these have just popped up. “Finally! Someone with brians posts!” and “This made me thnik hard. Kudos.” are my two favorites to date.
I’m just loaded with brians!
*thnick thnick*
I thnick Shipoopi is originally from “The Music Man.” In fact, I nkow it.
@Julia F:
Yeah, exactly my point!! “Shipoopi” was in “The Music Man” with Robert Preston as Harold Hill. Preston was also in “The Last Starfighter” as Centauri the alien recruiter, which is where my mind went… and then my mind goes to pretty much every and any movie every in wide release in America.
