Does god hate women?
These guys certainly think so.
A student at an Islamic school in Bangladesh has been shot dead and at least 30 others injured during a demonstration against women’s rights.
The protesters were marching through the south-western town of Jessore against moves by the government to ensure equal property rights for women…
Under Bangladeshi law, a woman normally inherits half as much as her brother.
Because god wants it that way, which we know, because god said so in this book we are holding aloft while screaming in rage.
does god hate women? of course! imagine what mrs. god would do about the relation of mr. god with mary. and what about his illegitimate child jesus? god had to stone mary and himself!!
Oh we know what mrs god would do: that’s Hera: she did all sorts of things!
Oh we know what mrs god would do: that’s Hera: she did all sorts of things!
There is also Mrs God Parvathi/Kali who keeps Mr God Shiva on a tight leash. The older polytheistic religions were so much more human.
But seriously, this is significant and quite revolutionary reform by the Bangladesh government, so all power to them. It would be unthinkable to advocate such in my country – where if a muslim dies intestate, the discriminatory sharia provisions must apply.
Even if this Bangladeshi government pulls the reform off, the next government can reverse the legislation. Bangladesh has been swinging back and forth like this for some time. The secular Awami League is reform minded while the BNP appeases the mullahs. Both parties are led by women.
Looking up the subject of “slavery” recently, I noticed that the subjection of women is not included. I have puzzled about this for a long time. Why doesn’t it appear under discussions of slavery? The god who hates women is a male god: it’s just male supremacy doing its stuff and pretending “god says”. What about the universal declaration of human rights, then? Does it mean, “all humans who aren’t women”? Why are these people allowed to carry on like this? Where are the freedom fighters for women?
Good point, mirax: well done Bangladesh.
They probably think they are being damn generous to let them own any property at all.
Yes, as a matter of fact – we’re always being told that Mo was terrifically progressive and wonderful compared to what came before him. (We’re not always being told why that means it’s a good idea to stop there forever.)
