Another interview
I mentioned that interview I did for Humanistpodden the other day; here it is. Johan is remarkably knowledgeable about inter-atheist quarrels, among other things.
Update: And another thing, as long as I’m in me me me vein. I’m now a columnist for Free Inquiry. The first column will be in the August-September issue.
It’s nice to hear you! I hope this doesn’t sound shallow, but you have a great voice – I think it’s helpful to have voice that is good to listen to in such situations. (An example of when this doesn’t work is Johann Hari, who tends to gabble. My interest in this is that I was involved in teaching a ‘communication skills’ course for undergraduates for many years).
Shallow? [simper] How could it possibly sound less shallow?
:- )
But seriously: thanks.
Did you see Johann on that BBC panel show where he said imagine if the BBC were doing what the Vatican is doing? He didn’t gabble there, I can tell you. Abs’ly brilliant. A year ago or so.
No, I didn’t. His most recent appearance was on an awful program with Anne Widdecombe about the future of Christianity in the UK. He was very effective, but I keep wanting to say “Take a breath, Johann”. I occasionally listen to his podcasts, and I’m still not sure what to make of them. However, I do remember his magnificent speech at the rally against the pope’s visit.
I’ve been neglecting my FI’s, even though I have a sub. I only seem to find time to read in bits and bobs. At least with you and Hitch, there’s two articles an issue that are a lock.
That just pushed me over into getting a subscription. It’s a great magazine, I just never got around to it. Now I will. It’s important to support publications that do something other than Gnu Bashing, and who have such excellent taste in contributors.
Steve – I told Ophelia just the same thing the other day by email. She does have a great voice, doesn’t she?
/fawning sycophancy and crawling minion-hood
Already a subscriber to FI. Looking forward to reading your pieces. Congrats!
Congratulations on the Free Inquiry gig – I look forward to your articles there! Enjoying the interviews.
:- )
Thanks all!
[Note massive likability. Heehee]
First time I’ve heard you speak, that was a very good interview – interesting, humorous, thoughtful.
I’m very interested to hear about the new book, can’t wait to read it.
Johann Hari making his point re: Catholic Church and BBC, as noted above by Ophelia:

Re: the Free Inquiry news, very cool! Looking forward to your contributions.
Congrats on the FI gig. I agree with Steve…you’ve a great voice and you even make sense…even in Sweden.
