This is perfect. I hope it is published somewhere that people who don’t have Twitter accounts, or have missed this, will be able to read it. Too bad that the child-abuse lobby will just send threats and slogans in response, as per usual.
Oh good, someone has put the ideas I’ve been wrestling with into coherent words. If you “pause” a child’s development at a stage where they are deeply unhappy and convinced that they really ought to be the other sex… they remain the same person. What an utterly cruel thing to do to a child. It does rather look like the most effective treatment for gender dysphoria is… undergoing puberty. Oh, the irony.
(Are there any sources at all about what happens when someone takes puberty blockers before or at the onset of puberty, and stops taking them at an age where it should rightfully be over? I only found out from a recent article about Keira Bell that she experienced all the joys of the menopause while on PBs – hardly that happy, carefree state of pre-pubescent reasoning that advocates of PBs keep promising us.)
“Jazz as a medical case is really a conundrum because her puberty was blocked so well that she didn’t get growth of her genitals in a way that allows us as a surgeon to use a conventional approach,” said Dr. Bowers, who admitted that there were risks involved, including “hemorrhage inside” or “injury to the intestine.”
…
“Jazz does not know what an orgasm is and it’s very important when expressing intimacy,” said Dr. Bowers. “And although it is not something that’s going to delay surgery, it’s not going to be any easier for her to have an orgasm after surgery.”
Know “orgasm” when you read that the effects of “puberty blockers” on “sexual function” are “unknown”.
Dave Ricks – Ugh, this is why the adults (not to mention, medical experts) need to damn well act like adults. You confront a child with the concept of sex, and they pretty universally go “EWWW!”. There is no way they can understand what they will miss out on if they go down the path of full medical transition. Compare this with the experience of actual grown women seeking sterilization because they are sure they don’t want more / any children and are patronized by doctors and told they might change their minds / it wouldn’t be fair on their husbands.
Well said.
