“Head to head with Asadullah on the relevance of feminism to Muslim women. 4 rounds of ruthless back & forth, let’s do this! Really hoping there are some good questions in the Q&A afterwards.
P.S. This is an academic debate so the gender of the panelists doesn’t matter, however if you’re wondering why there aren’t women on the panel, that’s a question for the organizers, not the two of us :)”
Thank heavens it was academic, otherwise the irony might have been fatal. I prefer to think of it as the other kind of academic, the kind synonymous with pointless.
I desperately want to laugh, but it’s really not funny.
Shortest debate ever.
“Do Muslim women need feminism?”
“No”.
“No”.
“Thank you. Next week, Do infidels deserve to die?”
Well, it’s not funny, but it also is funny. At these times we just have to do both, I think – laugh and snarl.
Can I just snarl? I don’t feel much like laughing tonight.
snarf

Bloody hell I think I got platituditis looking at that guy’s facebook wall…
Why would a Muslim women need feminism?
Let’s face it, in Islam there are only two types of people: there are the males and then there are the sub-males, the ones in hijabs.
There’s simply no room for ‘feminine’.
Do Muslim women need Islam?
Maybe we can get the event shut down. They didn’t say ‘non-males’ after all!
Too late for that
Slightly off topic, but related…

You’re misreading the poster. Note the absence of a question mark ending “Do Muslim Women Need Feminism.”
“DO” is the web country code of the Dominican Republic. Place is awash with Muslim women needing feminism.

Ironically the IIUM is proud of its prizewinning female debaters – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Islamic_University_Malaysia & find “Ameera Natasha Moore”
